About the wines of Szekszárd

The wine region of Szekszárd is situated in the Midwestern area of Hungary south of Lake Balaton in line with the Danube. Partly due to its geographical location, the dominant features of the continental climate ensure long, dry summers and autumns, which provide favourable conditions for the large quantities of black grape varieties found in the region. The soil and rock composition of the wine region is homogenous (loess, clay and lime soil on limestone bedrock); however, the mesoclimatic factors in the smaller vineyards and valleys lend the wine produced here unique character and diversity.
